Generation Xcel introduced two new opportunities today for the corporate community to sponsor hope for inner city young people:

  • the third annual Celebration of Xcellence (June 14) and
  • the second annual Summer of Service (July & August).

CELEBRATION OF XCELLENCE
Generation Xcel specializes in mobilizing young people for service and empowering them to defy negative stereotypes about themselves and their communities. In this tradition, the Celebration of Xcellence will recognize outstanding student and staff achievers; showcase creative arts talent from the past year through an art exhibit and performances; feature an inspirational message from a guest speaker; and debut the video project "Family Portrait." Sponsors will enable children and their families to attend as guests, and support Xcel's summer day camp.

SUMMER OF SERVICE
The Summer of Service, a series of four community service projects that will collectively impact 2,500 neighborhood families and involve 300-500 volunteers from around the country, will include an eight week schedule of the following events:

July 14 Xcel Hoops The seventh annual three-on-three basketball tournament for ages 8 and older; includes live entertainment, food, trophies, and more.
July 17

Day of Hope

A day of festivities including games, music, inspiration, and a food distribution of approximately 9,000 bags of groceries.
August 15 -
August 21
Chain Reaction A week of community service including street cleaning, park beautification, and random acts of kindness through public housing projects.
August 21 Xcel Carnival The third annual celebration of summer including games, prizes, food, live entertainment, and an awards presentation.

You can download sponsorship proposals detailing how your organization can support either, or both, initiatives, along with a Fact Sheet, Summer 2003 Recap, and sponsorship agreement in .Pdf format. Please complete the sponsorship agreement and return it by May 21for the Celebration of Xcellence or June 10 for the Summer of Service in order to be included in printed materials.
