Generation
Xcel introduced two new opportunities today for the corporate community
to sponsor hope for inner city young people:
- the third
annual Celebration of Xcellence (June 14) and
- the second
annual Summer of Service (July & August).
CELEBRATION
OF XCELLENCE
Generation Xcel specializes in mobilizing young people for service
and empowering them to defy negative stereotypes about themselves
and their communities. In this tradition, the Celebration of Xcellence
will recognize outstanding student and staff achievers; showcase
creative arts talent from the past year through an art exhibit and
performances; feature an inspirational message from a guest speaker;
and debut the video project "Family Portrait." Sponsors
will enable children and their families to attend as guests, and
support Xcel's summer day camp.
SUMMER
OF SERVICE
The Summer of Service, a series of four community service projects
that will collectively impact 2,500 neighborhood families and involve
300-500 volunteers from around the country, will include an eight
