POSITION DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS
Xcel Interns
(Fall 2005 - Spring 2006)
Interns commit 10 hours/week for 10 weeks and provide program and/or administrative support. Function as senior peer counselors; facilitate group dialogues and program planning; assist program specialists and guest lecturers; mentor and coach; tutor as needed; conduct workshops in skill areas. College undergraduate; B average; maturity; demonstrated leadership and core values; interest and skill in computers, visual or performing arts
Tutors Support academic enrichment programs; tutor children ages 8-12 in reading, math, and other school subjects; help with homework and school projects. High school upperclassmen or college students; at least 16 yrs old; B average; maturity; demonstrated leadership and core values
Dance Specialist Conduct weekly dance workshops at either or both Xcel facility; choreograph and direct routines; produce seasonal dance recitals Professional dance instructor or dancer or dance student with experience; teaching ability
Acting Specialist Conduct weekly acting workshops at either or both Xcel facility; produce and direct original sketch comedies, monologues, and dramas Professional actor or director or theater arts student with experience; teaching ability
Director Work with program specialists to produce and direct seasonal, original stage productions Professional actor or director or theater arts student with experience; teaching ability
Writing Specialist Teach and coach creative writing including short stories, poetry, spoken word, song lyrics, scripts, monologues College student or graduate; journalism, English, or related major; excellent writing ability; publishing experience a plus
Communications Editor Write and edit copy for printed and electronic quarterly newsletters and website; design and publish student weblog and newsletters College student or graduate; journalism, English, or related major; excellent writing ability; journalism or public relations experience a plus
Web Developer Redesign and enhance www.GenerationXcel.com and related websites Reliable vendor with programming, graphic arts, and database experience
Computer programmer Develop integrated database for tracking student performance and measuring program effectiveness. College student or graduate; computer programming or related major; excellent communication skills; database experience a plus
Parent Organizer Develop strategies for engaging parents in socio-educational needs of children involved in YW8 and Xcel; organize and advocate for parents re community and public education issues Community organizing and activism experience; written and oral communication skills; bilingual; preferably a parent with a child enrolled at Xcel; courteous yet persuasive demeanor
Xcel Interns
(Summer 2006)
Eight week internship program from June - August. Interns provide program and/or administrative support to the Xcel Summer Day Camp. Function as senior peer counselors; assist senior staff and program specialists; supervise activities and program planning; mentor and coach; tutor as needed; conduct workshops in skill areas. Mandatory training week. College undergraduate; B average; maturity; demonstrated leadership and core values; interest and skill in computers, visual or performing arts

Junior Staff
(Summer 2006)
Facilitate activities and program planning; assist interns and peer counselors; mentor and coach; tutor as needed. Mandatory training week. High school students; at least 14 yrs old; B average; maturity; demonstrated leadership and core values
