REGISTRATION MEMORANDUM

We are pleased to invite your child to participate in Xcel Summer ("XS") from July 5 - August 20, 2005, at our facility at 154 Avenue D, Ground Floor (the "Premises"). This memo describes the program and eligibility requirements.

Please note that the summer program will not function as a summer day camp. Read the instructions carefully in order to properly register your child.

Descriptions of each activity are available below.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION: You must register you child for each activity individually. Registering for one activity does not automatically qualify a student to participate in any others except Drop-in Hours.

2. AGES: XS will serve young people ages 8-15. To be eligible to participate, every child must turn 8 years old before July 1, 2005, and may not turn 16 before September 1, 2005.

3. PICK-UP: Students age ten and younger must be picked up from the Premises by an authorized adult over the age of 18. Children eleven and older may leave unsupervised, with your written permission. Please indicate your permission and/or list all authorized adults on the attached Registration.

4. NUMBER OF CHILDREN: XS will enroll up to 30 students for each activity on a first come, first serve basis, with additional students placed on a waiting list.

5. WAITING LIST: If a registered child drops out or is removed from the program, their spot on the roster will be filled by the first person on the waiting list. ANY CHILD WHO FAILS TO ATTEND the first session WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REMOVED FROM THE ROSTER UNLESS EXCUSED, and replaced by the next child on the waiting list.

6. FORMS: Every child must return the following forms completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian in order to participate in XS: (1) REGISTRATION, (2) PARENTAL RELEASE, (3) MEDICAL RELEASE and (4) BIRTH CERTIFICATE COPY.

7. SNACKS: Each child must bring their own snacks. Lunch will not be provided.

8. TUITION: Tuition for XS is $20 for one activity (except Boot Camp, which is free), $15 for a second activity and $10 for each additional activity. Tuition for Chain Reaction is $100 and includes accommodations and food for seven days. Financial assistance is available if needed.

9. T-SHIRTS: XS t-shirts are $15, and must be worn for all XS field trips and performances.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS

  • Boot Camp is an intensive training program that includes callisthenics, obstacle courses, and team building exercises designed to instill discipline and the Xcel Core Values: creativity, initiative, resourcefulness, resiliency, unity, and excellence.
  • Sports Camp includes basketball, softball, and volleyball culminating in a one-day skills competition. College athletes teach the fundamentals, coach the games, and award individual and team prizes to exemplary students.
  • Architecture is an intensive three week class to introduce teens to architecture and design as they imagine a dream youth center and create a scale model.
  • Creative Xpression students will write, rehearse, and perform original spoken word, comedy sketches, or drama.
  • Dance students will learn hip hop and modern dance as they prepare choreographed performances.
  • Art students will utilize various artistic mediums to explore the summer's theme.
  • Group Club includes athletic and recreational activities in a six week competition for team and individual prizes that will be presented at Carnival.
  • Field Trips invite kids to experience the rich culture and fun our city offers by visiting museums, parks, and other places of interest.
  • Drop-in hours are opportunities for Xcel students to bring friends, participate in game room activities, or work individually on creative projects.
  • Chain Reaction is a week-long community outreach project in our own neighborhood. From Sunday through Saturday, teens will live in community at a local church, Abounding Grace on 9 East 7th Street, even as they volunteer throughout the neighborhood in community service projects and random acts of kindness. Students will check-in at Abounding Grace, Sunday, 8/14 @ 5 pm and check out on Saturday, 8/20 @ 7pm.
